DIY Family of Handprints Project

Just in time for the holiday season; A great family gathering project!

If your family is like many families today, members may live all around the world! The only time you all (or most) get together is during holidays – any holiday. In our household we are a blended family with 8 kids; most with spouses and children. Whenever even some of us gather it’s a crowd! So, that is how this project came to be…

My materials list:
-3 yds of Custom Natural Canvas Fabric
-A Ruler
Iron
-Heat ‘n’ Bond Super Hem
Decorative Paint of various colors
Paint Brushes
Tulip Fabric Markers or Sharpies
-Paper Plates

1115 materials

In preparation:
Press the fabric to remove any creases and wrinkles. Begin hemming by measuring 1” around the edges. Press toward the wrong side of the fabric. Turn the fabric again inward toward the crease just created from the pressing. Either by hand or machine, stitch around the edges to create a clean edge OR use the Heat ‘n’ Bond Super Hem. Make sure to follow its directions.

Now You’re Ready!
I used spray glue to attach mine to a wall in our house. Not liking that idea? You could stretch your canvas around a frame either bought or made. You could even create your own wall hanging by adding tabs to the top of your canvas OR create a ‘sleeve’ on one of the edges of the fabric to hang from a curtain or dowel rod.

Let the Fun Begin!
Set out the paper plates, paints and paint brushes. Let everyone do “their own thing”! They really can get competitive! The result for me is a family wall of handprints.

Happy Holidays!
