Sew It Yourself: Holiday Hexie Mug Mats Tutorial

Need something merry and bright to add to your table? These pretty mug mats will do! Let’s get started!

Approximate finished size: 6-1/8” x 5-1/4”

Materials:

June Tailor® You Hexie Thing, hexagon ruler

5-3/4” x 7” strip of Christmas print fabric

5-3/4” x 7” strip of backing fabric

5-3/4” x 7” strip of cotton batting

3” strip of fusible tape

Rotary cutter and cutting mat

Basic sewing supplies

Ribbons, buttons and embellishments as desired

Cutting:

Following the instructions included with the June Tailor® You Hexie Thing ruler, cut print fabric, backing fabric and batting for a 3” hexagon. Note: All three may be layered and cut at one time.

Assembly:

Layer batting, Christmas print fabric (right side up), then backing fabric (face down).

Using a ¼” seam allowance, sew around perimeter.

Clip corners. Cut a slit in the top layer, backing fabric, and turn right side out. Press seams.

Center fusible tape under slit in backing fabric. Press to fuse close the opening in the backing fabric.

Quilt and embellish as desired.
