This month I’m so excited to share with you one of the most haute couture inspired Halloween getups you will ever find this season and it’s so perfect because I’m a sewing and fashion junkie. Moschino delivers a very entertaining, inspiring, and fashion forward collection as seen here.
To recreate this fun and festive, not to mention high fashion seasonal look you will need the following:
–Hancock’s Yellow Sportswear Twill: the pattern calls for Linen, Crepes, Gingham, or Faille. I went with the twill because I like the body of the fabric, but you will need to make a liner for this fabric or wear a slip underneath.
-Matching thread
-Sponge brush
-Xacto Knife
-Printed numbers on paper
Directions:
1. Cut fabric.
2. Print numbers approximately 3-4 inches in height onto paper. Trace onto the non-shiny side of freezer paper. The non-shiney side is the glue side.
3. Using an xacto knife, safely cut out the numbers from freezer paper using a cutting mat underneath.
4. Locate the front dress pattern, mark the center front of the dress and pin the freezer paper numbers and lines into place.
Continue to do the same with all the numbers, evenly placing the along the center front of the dress. Make measurement markings for the sides of the dress, be as accurate or inaccurate as you like (I won’t tell), the photo below can be used as a guide/example. I say example loosely because you are the designer and you decide how many measurement markings you want.
5. Iron into place. No steam. Shiny side of the paper should be face down and adhere to the fabric from the heat of the iron, thoroughly iron the entire stencil into place.
6. Paint in numbers and measurement markings.
7. Once paint dries, peel away freezer paper.
8. Sew McCall’s pattern according to dress instructions and you are done!
And there you have it! I went with a dress version instead of Moschino’s jacket look because dresses are fun and more ensemble feeling. The great thing about this pattern is that you can go sleeveless and wear a black turtleneck. add long sleeves and continue to add ruler markings down the side of your sleeves. Skies the limit – now go work your inner runway fashionista self!
