Fabric Requirements
- 1 yard Solid White
- 1 yard Solid Turquoise
- 3/4 yard Solid Bright Pink
- 1/2 yard HFT-C4152 Blue (paisley print)
- 1/2 yard HFT-C4151 Blue (large floral print)
- 3/8 yard HFT-C4154 Pink (pink geometric print)
- 3/8 yard HFT-C4153 Blue (blue geometric print)
- 1/4 yard HFT-C4155 Pink (pink dot print)
- 3 1/8 yards backing fabric of your choice
- 56″ x 68″ batting
Cutting
From Solid White:
*Cut three 5 1/2″ x width-of-fabric (WOF) strips. Sub-cut 1 strip in half lengthwise.
*Cut three 4 3/4″ x WOF strips. Sub-cut 1 strip in half lengthwise.
*Cut six 1 1/4″ squares.
From Solid Turquoise:
*Cut two 5 1/2″ x WOF strips. Sub-cut eight 5 1/2″ squares.
*Cut three 1 1/4″ x WOF strips. Sub-cut 1 strip in half lengthwise.
Cut four 1 1/4″ squares.
Cut six 2 1/4″ x WOF strips for binding.
From Solid Bright Pink:
*Cut two 5 1/2″ x WOF strips. Sub-cut ten 5 1/2″ squares.
*Cut eight 1 1/4″ x WOF strips. Sub-cut 1 strip in half lengthwise.
Cut two 1 1/4″ squares.
From HFT-C4152 Blue (paisley print):
*Cut three 5 1/2″ x WOF strips. Sub-cut eighteen 5 1/2″ squares.
From HFT-C4151 Blue (large floral print):
*Cut three 5 1/2″ x WOF strips. Sub-cut seventeen 5 1/2″ squares.
From HFT-C4154 Pink (pink geometric print):
*Cut two 5 1/2″ x WOF strips. Sub-cut ten 5 1/2″ squares.
From HFT-C4153 Blue (blue geometric print):
*Cut two 5 1/2″ x WOF strips. Sub-cut twelve 5 1/2″ squares.
From HFT-C4155 Pink (pink dot print):
*Cut one 5 1/2″ x WOF strip. Sub-cut five 5 1/2″ squares.
Make the Strip Sets
- Join one White 5 1/2″ x WOF strip to one Turquoise 1 1/4″ x WOF strip along one long edge to make a strip set. Repeat with one sub-cut White 5 1/2″ strip and one sub-cut Turquoise 1 1/4″ strip to make a shorter strip set. Press the seams open.
Crosscut thirty-nine 1 1/4″-wide segments from the two strip sets.
- Join one White 4 3/4″ x WOF strip to one Turquoise 1 1/4″ x WOF strip along one long edge to make a strip set. Repeat with one sub-cut White 4 3/4″ strip and one sub-cut Turquoise 1 1/4″ strip to make a shorter strip set. Press the seams open.
Cross-cut forty 1 1/4″-wide segments from the two strip sets.
- Repeat step 1, substituting Bright Pink for the Turquoise strips. Cross-cut forty-one 1 1/4″-wide segments from the two strip sets.
- Repeat step 2, substituting Bright Pink for the Turquoise strips. Cross-cut forty 1 1/4″-wide segments from the two strip sets.
Make the Blocks
- Sew one shorter Turquoise/White 1 1/4″-wide segment to one side of a Bright Pink 5 1/2″ square. Press the seam open. Join one longer Bright Pink/White 1 1/4″-wide segment to the adjacent side of the block, making sure the White strip ends are together. Press the seam open.
This block will be placed in the upper right corner of the quilt.
- Repeat step 1 to make blocks in the following fabric combinations:
{Combinations listed below as: 5 1/2″ block (strip/colors)}
Bright Pink (Bright Pink/White) Make 2.
Bright Pink (Turquoise/White) Make 7.
Turquoise (Turquoise/White) Make 3.
Turquoise (Bright Pink /White) Make 5.
Pink geometric (Bright Pink /White) Make 10.
Blue geometric (Turquoise/White) Make 12.
Large floral (Bright Pink /White) Make 14.
Large floral (Turquoise/White) Make 3.
Paisley (Bright Pink/White) Make 4.
Paisley (Turquoise/White) Make 14.
Pink dot (Bright Pink /White) Make 5.
Assemble the Quilt
- Arrange the blocks in 10 rows of 8 blocks each, rotating the blocks as needed to form the stepped design.
- Sew the blocks in each row together along adjacent edges. Press the seams open. Sew the rows together. Press the seams open.
- Sew the remaining Bright Pink 1 1/4″-wide strips together end to end, using either straight or diagonal seams. Cut two strips 45″ for the top and bottom borders. Cut two strips 56 1/2″ for the side borders.
- Join one 1 1/4″ square to each end of the top and bottom borders, then sew to the respective quilt edges. Join two 1 1/4″ squares to each end of the side borders, and sew one to each side of the quilt. Press the seams toward the borders.
Finishing
- Layer the quilt top, batting, and backing, and quilt as desired.
- Stitch the binding strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Fold and press the resulting long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. Stitch to the quilt front, matching raw edges and mitering the corners.
- Fold the binding to the quilt back and hand-stitch the folded edge in place.
